    Cairn Terrier clubs

Every country has a national kennel club, and most also have a club for terriers or for the Cairn alone. Here is how they fit together, what they can do for you, and who to ask in your country.

    How dog clubs work

    1. The FCI

The world federation of kennel clubs. It recognises the Cairn Terrier and keeps its breed standard. Its members are the national kennel clubs, one per country.

    2. Your national kennel club

It keeps the studbook and issues the pedigree. A pedigree from an FCI kennel club is recognised in every other FCI country.

    3. The terrier or Cairn club

It works under the kennel club and looks after the breed: shows, health, breeding advice and, in many countries, a list of breeders and litters.

What a club can do for you

    Thinking of a puppy

Ask the breed club for its list of breeders or litters, and ask a breeder whether they are a member. Make sure the pedigree will come from the national kennel club.

    You own a Cairn

A club brings shows, walks and meetings, health news, and other owners who know the breed.

    You breed Cairns

The kennel club and the breed club set the rules for a litter. Our breeding rules pages list them country by country.

    Clubs in your country

Each country lists its kennel club first, then its terrier or Cairn clubs. Where we found no terrier club, the kennel club is the place to ask.
