Going home
When a puppy can travel
The first question every family abroad asks is when they can come and collect him. The answer depends on where you live, and the date is not one we chose.
Inside Luxembourg — eight weeks
A puppy stays with us until at least eight weeks. That is the earliest any Cairn leaves this kennel, and within Luxembourg it is when he can go home.
Anywhere else — fifteen weeks
A puppy cannot be vaccinated against rabies before twelve weeks, and twenty-one days must pass after that vaccination before he may travel. Twelve weeks and three weeks make fifteen. It is not a date we can move, and we would not want to.
What every puppy travels with
A microchip, a valid rabies vaccination, an EU pet passport, and the health record we have kept since the day he was born.
Ireland, Finland, Malta, Norway and Great Britain
These five have stayed free of the fox tapeworm and intend to keep it that way. A vet must treat the puppy between one and five days before you arrive, and write the treatment into the passport. We plan the collection date around that window.
Once you are home
Most countries ask a new owner to register the dog, and the deadlines differ from one to the next. Please check what your own country requires — your vet will know.
