Breeding-excluding findings: PRA, congenital cataract, later-onset cataract (cortical / post. pol. / nuclear), primary lens luxation, primary glaucoma, entropion/trichiasis, ectropion/macroblepharon. "Suspicious / undetermined" allows breeding but requires repeat after 1 year.
From 8 months ECVO-recognised ophthalmologist in Switzerland. Must be repeated after the dog's 5th birthday before further breeding use.

Breeding conditions
- DNA profile mandatory for breeding approval (SKG requirement since July 2024).
- Conformation evaluation: minimum "sehr gut" by an FCI/SKG-recognised terrier or Group 3 specialist judge.
- Behaviour assessment (Körverhaltensbeurteilung, KVB): must pass.
- Stud minimum 12 months, bitch minimum 15 months, bitch maximum 9 years (9th birthday). Mating date decisive.
- Maximum 2 litters in 2 calendar years. A third may be granted on written application.
- Maximum 2 caesarean sections.
Dogs registered elsewhere
- A foreign stud must have an FCI-recognised pedigree and meet the breeding requirements of its country of origin. Where the foreign country also requires breeding approval, only approved animals may be used.
- Dogs born in Switzerland and now standing abroad: if known to carry a hereditary disease or breeding approval withdrawn, may not be used even from abroad.
Read this first
- The appendix lists each terrier breed individually. Several carry "z.Zt. werden keine Vorsorgeuntersuchungen verlangt" (no preventive examinations required). The Cairn Terrier entry explicitly names the eye examination — it is present in the appendix, not merely absent from it.
- The DNA profile is a general SKG requirement, not Cairn-specific, and follows the SKG standard (ISAG-based). Whether Embark satisfies it was not established.
